Key terms used in Grove documentation.


B

Base

A fast, low-cost blockchain network built by Coinbase. Grove operates on Base.

Base Name

A human-readable name on Base (e.g., yourname.base.eth) that can be used in place of a wallet address. Get one at base.org/names.

Base Wallet

A crypto wallet by Coinbase, formerly known as Coinbase Wallet. One of the wallets supported by Grove.

Browser Extension

The Grove browser extension that lets you tip creators directly on X, YouTube, Substack, and any website. Installation instructions.


E

Earner

Someone who receives tips through Grove. Earners claim a username and connect their social accounts to receive tips on their profile page or via the browser extension.

Earnings Wallets

Grove uses a two-part earnings wallet setup:

  • Smart Account — canonical earnings sender and receiver.
  • Owner EOA — exportable key owner for the Smart Account.

ENS (Ethereum Name Service)

A naming system that lets you use a human-readable name (like yourname.eth) instead of a long wallet address. Get one at ens.domains.


F

Facilitator

The service that processes your tips behind the scenes. Facilitators handle payment routing and cover transaction fees so tips arrive instantly.


G

Gas

Transaction fees on blockchain networks. Grove covers gas fees for you — you never need to pay them.

Giveaway

A tip-funded contest on Grove. Fans tip to enter, creators keep the tips, and winners are drawn transparently. Learn more.


L

Leaderboard

Public rankings showing top tippers, top earners, and recent tips. View at grove.city/leaderboard. Learn more.

Ledger

A hardware wallet manufacturer. Ledger devices can be used with Grove via browser wallet extensions.


M

MetaMask

A popular browser-based crypto wallet. MetaMask is one of the wallets supported by Grove.


N

Non-custodial

A system where users retain full control of their private keys. Earners receive tips non-custodially — directly to their personal wallets. Also called self-custodial.


O

Owner EOA

The EOA (externally owned account) that owns your Grove Smart Account and supports private key export.


P

Phantom

A multi-chain crypto wallet supporting Ethereum, Solana, and more. Phantom is one of the wallets supported by Grove.

R

Referral

When you invite someone to Grove using your referral link. You earn 2% commission on all tips your referrals receive for 1 year. Learn more.


S

Smart Account

An ERC-4337 account that acts as your canonical earnings sender. In Grove, tips and withdrawals use this address.

Solana

A high-performance blockchain. Solana support for Grove is coming soon.


T

Tip

A payment from a supporter to a creator through Grove, denominated in USDC.

Tipper

Someone who funds a Grove wallet and sends tips to creators — on their profile page or via the browser extension.

Grove Key

The key that connects your Grove account to the browser extension. Found on your dashboard. Keep it private.

Tipping Wallet

The wallet you deposit funds into for sending tips. Deposits are non-refundable and non-withdrawable. Maximum balance: $1,000. See also: Earnings Wallets.


U

USDC

USD Coin — a digital dollar where 1 USDC always equals $1. Grove uses USDC for all tips.

An open protocol for web-native payments that Grove uses to process tips instantly. Learn more at x402.org.
